The Johnson House Project: A Historical Transformation with RDK Design and Build

We’re excited and honored to share that RDK Design and Build was featured in the July/August issue of Luxe Magazine for our work on The Johnson House Project! This incredible opportunity allowed us to bring new life to one of Central City, Colorado’s historical homes, owned by the esteemed Central City Opera.

Central City Opera’s Historical Legacy:

Founded in 1932, Central City Opera not only enriches audiences with exceptional performances but also plays a crucial role in preserving Colorado’s architectural heritage. They own and maintain 28 Victorian-era homes, the largest collection of historically held properties in the state. Among these is The Johnson House, a stunning example of 19th-century craftsmanship and design.

The Johnson House: An Interior Design Collaboration:

The Johnson House Project was a Historical Designer Showhouse event that brought together 22 talented designers from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Colorado, Luxe Magazine, and other industry leaders. Each designer took on a unique area of the home, collaborating to blend historical charm with contemporary elegance.

At RDK Design and Build, we were thrilled to work on the Entry and Stairway Design portion of the home. Our goal was to create a welcoming, visually impactful space that honored the home’s Victorian roots while adding touches of timeless style. This project was a labor of love, and we are incredibly grateful to all the partners, suppliers, and volunteers who donated their time, skills, and resources to make it possible.

Transforming History with Modern Design:

Restoring and enhancing historic homes requires a delicate balance between preservation and innovation. At RDK Design and Build, we take pride in honoring a property’s history while introducing modern design elements that enhance its beauty and function. The Johnson House was no exception. We carefully selected design details, materials, and finishes that would respect the home’s historical character while inviting a fresh, welcoming feel.

Thank You to Our Partners:

This project would not have been possible without the dedication and support of the Central City Opera, ASID Colorado, Luxe Magazine, and the incredible industry partners who contributed to every detail. We are deeply grateful to everyone involved in making this vision a reality.
